Cherokee County, Alabama: Weiss Lake is a centerpiece of Cherokee County, but numerous recreational activities can be found within minutes of
the lakefront. Hiking trails and Natural Adventures can be found at Cherokee Rock Village, Little River National Preserve and Canyon Mouth
Park Recreation Area.
Cherokee County, named for the Cherokee Indians, was established by the Alabama legislature on 1836 Jan. 9. Cherokee County is located in the northeastern
portion of the state, in the Appalachian Mountains. Cherokee County encompasses 553 square miles. It is bordered on the north by DeKalb County, on the west
by Etowah County, on the south by Calhoun and Cleburne, and the east by Chattooga and Floyd Counties, GA.

Rome: Just 30 minutes from the retreat house in Floyd County, Georgia is the city of Rome.
Rome, surrounded by the Etowah, Oostanaula and Coosa Rivers,
was founded in 1834. Explore downtown and gaze at the lovely houses and churches that stretch from Broad Street southeast to the Etowah River. There are
many historic sites as well as Victorian architecture and charm. There are numerous antique and specialty shops in the Historic Downtown Rome area, as
