Most people have heard of Florence Nightingale. The image is usually that of a woman in a long skirt and bonnet carrying a lamp while trudging through the battlefield littered with injured soldiers in the Crimean War. But she was much, more than a mere source of comfort for the injured. As the late Paul Harvey would say, “now for the rest of the story.”
